Mac Studio Special Antennas

Mac Studio Special Antennas

So I've been a happy owner of Mac Studio and it works flawlessly for everything that I care about (performance in workflows with decent efficiency that I can leave it running. However, ever since I upgraded to my Wifi 6E router, I had connectivity issues.

Earlier I blamed the Indian Government for blocking the 6GHz WiFi implementation. However after finding a workaround for this, it became obvious that while my PC was flying through (~1Gbps throughput) on 6E, Mac Studio was struggling bad, to the point that I would get less than 300 Mbps on upload.

To solve that, I started to look in various directions. While observing the WiFi stats, I could see that MCS Index was 1, which generally means that signal is not quite right. So I tried everything including changing orientation. And on a reddit post, which I cannot find anymore, it said that antennas are in the base (since the whole body is a giant metal cage, except the bottom rubber pads) and thus it would be best to point the base towards the access point.

Yes, you read that right. Point the base towards Access Point for maximum signal reception. And it worked flawless. My Bluetooth also works way better now! The whole setup looks weird though.

A small update, just verified that I am maxing out my Gigabit NAS now while downstream and approximately 500 mbps in upstream.
